Naturally Grown

Meets or surpasses organic methods using what mother nature provides. Leaves, grasses, straw and other plant materials are used for composting and mulching.  Crops are fertilized with items such as fish, kelp and cover crops.  Insects are controlled by the use of row covers, hand picking, companion planting and beneficial insects.

Organically Grown

Must meet state and government regulations by what they determine to be organic.  Technical Standards and Guidelines are listed by the USDA of what is Acceptable, Restricted, Prohibited and Federal.  Federal is allowed under the Virginia Act, but probably will be restricted or prohibited under Federal rules.

Sustainably Grown

A careful stewardship of the earth and its resources to meet current and future food needs through soil improvements and wildlife habitat protection.  Also, pest management programs are integrated that incorporate crop rotations, beneficial insects, minimal pesticide use, and use of pesticides that are safer and have less impact on the environment.
